JUSTIN BIEBER OFFICIALLY TAKES LADY GAGA'S GLOBAL SOCIAL CROWN

Starcount has exclusively revealed that Lady Gaga has been toppled off her throne as the all-time most popular and influential person in global social media by Justin Bieber.
Lady Gaga has topped Starcount chart since 2010 however yesterday Justin Bieber overtook Mother Monster to claim the title.

Starcount.com is the world’s only definitive measure of global social media popularity uniquely aggregating popularity and engagement data from the 11 biggest global social networks to deliver a Starcount Score and create daily global leader boards for celebrity and brands.

At 18 years old Justin Bieber is the most popular and influential entity in the world across global social media sitting on the Number 1 spot in Starcount’s prestigious Global All Time Chart ahead of the likes of The Walt Disney Company Number 4, Barack Obama Number 12, Cristiano Ronaldo Number 16 and Coca Cola Number 18.

Bieber’s popularity and influence in global social media is so great that his Starcount Score is higher than the combined scores of:

Simon Cowell (21,439, 492) + Cold Play (141, 526, 440)+ Madonna (67,583,156) + Justin Timberlake (100,040,429) < Justin Bieber (374, 825, 719)

Justin Beiber is managed by Scooter Braun who is fast becoming the ultimate social media manager propelling his artists careers into the social stratosphere. In addition to managing Bieber, Braun looks after Psy the Korean Pop sensation who recently broke Bieber’s record for the most views of a video on YouTube ever and Carly Rae Jepsen who has risen to fame after her song 'Call Me Maybe' went viral and now has over 357 million YouTube hits, a lot of which was accredited to a viral take on her video featuring Justin Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Justin Bieber’s recent surges on social media have helped dethrone Lady Gaga and she now slips to second place. While they are very close in terms of their Starcount scores (Bieber has a score of 374,825,719 and Gaga of 371,924,790), Bieber’s growth rate on social media completely eclipses Lady Gaga’s. In the last week alone, Bieber has risen by almost 600,000 Facebook fans compared to Gaga’s 160,000. Justin Bieber is behind on total fans though, with 48.8 million, while Lady Gaga has 54.2 million Facebook fans.

Lady Gaga has been the Queen of Twitter since overtaking Ashton Kutcher, Barack Obama and Britney Spears over two years ago. However, Bieber is edging closer to the coveted top spot, with over 315,000 new followers in the last week, taking his total up to 31.3 million followers. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has increased by 208,000 followers in the last week and has a total of 32 million followers. Thanks to his Beliebers, even the simplest of tweets is retweeted tens of thousands of times, whereas Gaga’s Twitter account has been much less active in recent weeks, with fewer retweets.

Justin Bieber began his social media domination with YouTube, and has soared past Lady Gaga since she beat him to the 1 billion views milestone back in 2010 to become the most viewed person on the network. Gaga’s lack of recent music releases is one of the reasons she has fallen behind, as Bieber has now reached a staggering 3.2 billion views on his main YouTube channel, JustinBieberVEVO - Gaga is trailing with 2.3 billion views (LadyGagaVEVO). The race between the two social media stars is closer than ever, but if Justin Bieber continues to grow at this rate, it may be difficult for Lady Gaga to catch up.

In addition to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Gaga has profiles on Google+, VKontakte, Renren and Orkut and Bieber has profiles on Sina Weibo, Mixi, VKontakte, Renren and Orkut. Starcount aggregates data from the 11 biggest networks to reflect the truly global nature of social media. *See here for a full list and calculation of the score.
