Jay-Z Signs Baseball Player To Roc Nation Sports

It’s undoubtable the love that rap mogul, Jay-Z has for sports. The rapper-businessman made major headlines last year when, as a minority owner for the NBA’s Nets, he helped facilitate a move to his native Brooklyn. Jay is taking it to another level however. News broke  (April 2) that New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Canó has signed with Roc Nation Sports, a company founded by Jay.

“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years,” Jay-Z said in a statement to ESPN.com.

Jay’s Roc Nation Sports has partnered with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a firm that represents sports stars Buster Posey and David Beckham.

Sources have told ESPN that Jay is planning to eventually become a certified agent himself in baseball, football and basketball, but there is a bit of conflict: In order for Hov to take on NBA clients, he would have to give up his ownership share in the Brooklyn Nets.

Jay-Z is still working on the music though. Apart from heading out on tour with Justin Timberlake in July, Jay is also producing the soundtrack to one of the most-anticipated movies of the year, ‘The Great Gatsby’. Andre 3000 and Beyonce have begun work on a collaboration for the musical project which is scheduled for a May 15 release.
