In recent years, the quality of Nollywood movies has been so poor and one of the reasons movie makers give for producing cheap and poor movies is that the degree of piracy in Nigeria will make them not profit from good quality movies. It took the intervention of new generation directors and producers who wanted to raise the bar and standard of Nollywood movies to start soliciting for funds to make good quality movies.
Award winning director, Kunle Afolayan who recently produced and directed October 1, the best film of the year 2014 has said he has not made up to half the amount of money he spent making the great movie because of the activities of Piracy.
The unauthorised reproduction/recording (piracy) of movies like Kunle Afolayan‘s October 1, Ayo Makun‘s 30 Days in Atlanta and others and the sales of such have prompted a reaction from Nollywood practitioners. But unlike several times in the past when people would just condemn these actions and move on, practitioners seem ready to swing into action. NET gathered that practitioners in the movie industry will gather for a peaceful protest march against Piracy on Monday, April 20, 2015. The protesters, to be led by Yemi Sodimu, Yinka Akanbi and others, will converge at Ikeja under bridge and March through Alausa and Ikeja environs to register their displeasure....
